Namibia Launches New 5-Year Permit for Foreign Investors and Business Owners
Namibia is set to introduce a new five-year permit for qualifying foreign investors and business owners from September 1, 2026, offering them a longer-term option to work and operate businesses in the country.
The Employment Permit to Conduct Business, introduced by the Ministry of Home Affairs, Immigration, Safety and Security, will allow eligible foreign nationals to stay for up to five years.
This is significantly longer than Namibia’s existing Investor Permit, which is generally issued for up to two years.
Applications for the new permit will have to be submitted manually through the Namibia Investment Promotion and Development Board (NIPDB).
The NIPDB will evaluate the proposed investment and its potential economic impact before forwarding eligible applications to the Chief of Immigration. The Immigration Selection Board will make the final decision.
Approved applicants will be required to pay a government fee of NAD 2,600.
Foreign nationals who do not qualify for the new five-year permit can continue applying under the existing Investor Permit.
The new permit is expected to encourage foreign investment and support economic growth in Namibia.
