National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has recovered state assets worth Rs. 2.45 trillion during the second quarter of 2026, driven largely by the retrieval of encroached government land across multiple provinces.
The bureau also announced a shift toward artificial intelligence-powered investigations as part of its accountability reforms.
According to NAB, the recoveries raised its total for the first six months of 2026 to Rs. 5.41 trillion, marking the highest six-month recovery figure since the bureau’s establishment. The agency said more than 1,078,283 acres of state land were recovered in Balochistan, Sindh, Punjab, and the Islamabad Capital Territory during the quarter.
NAB Sukkur recorded the largest recovery, reclaiming 853,678 acres of land valued at Rs. 1.01 trillion in coordination with the Sindh Board of Revenue and the provincial forest department. NAB Balochistan recovered 209,544 acres of forest land, including Hingol National Park and land belonging to the Gwadar Industrial Estate Development Authority, with a combined value of Rs. 604.64 billion.
NAB Karachi recovered 11,422 acres of allegedly illegally allotted state land worth Rs. 467.11 billion, while NAB Lahore reclaimed 1,909 acres valued at Rs. 288.29 billion. NAB Islamabad and Rawalpindi recovered 810 acres of Capital Development Authority amenity land worth Rs. 66.63 billion, and NAB Multan recovered 920 acres of state land valued at Rs. 2.76 billion.
The bureau also said more than 24,365 victims of housing and financial fraud received compensation through the return of money and assets worth Rs. 42.30 billion. NAB added that its total recoveries from March 2023 through June 2026 have reached Rs. 16.94 trillion.
Alongside the recovery figures, NAB announced that it has fully transitioned to a paperless E Office system and is introducing an artificial intelligence based investigation framework. According to the bureau, the new system will use machine learning to identify suspicious patterns, prioritize high risk cases, analyze documentary and oral evidence, and reduce human discretion in investigations.
NAB also said the Pakistan Anti Corruption Academy has been fully operationalized to strengthen training for its workforce.
