Locked out of your Samsung account? Some deactivated users think they know why.

Did you suddenly get locked out of your Samsung account without an explanation? Don’t worry. You’re not the only one.

According to user reports across social media and official support forums, some Samsung smartphone users have found that their Samsung accounts have been randomly deactivated, locking them out of some central features on their devices.

“Can’t sign in,” the prompt reads when a user attempts to sign in to their account. “Account deactivated for security reasons.”

Without the ability to login to their Samsung account, users cannot access Samsung apps such as Wallet, SmartThings, and Find.

Affected Samsung users have reported the issue on Samsung’s official support forums and on social media platforms such as Reddit. Some say they have successfully complained to Samsung support to get their account unlocked. Samsung customer service reportedly told users who reached out that it’s a known issue and that they are working on fixing.

While it’s unclear exactly what’s going on, some users have speculated on Reddit that the account deactivation issue only affects Samsung accounts that use a Gmail alias, which uses the “+” sign in their email address. In a Reddit comment thread, most users confirmed that their deactivated Samsung accounts used a Gmail alias.
