Hundreds of Teachers Face Termination Over Poor Class 9 Results
The District Education Authority Rawalpindi has initiated action against 404 teachers and 160 headmasters over poor Class 9 examination results, with termination among the possible outcomes.
Show-cause notices have been issued to teachers and principals of 160 schools where the pass percentage remained below 20%.
The action comes after 63% of students failed the Rawalpindi Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (BISE) Class 9 annual examination.
According to the results, 124,430 candidates submitted admissions, while 121,739 appeared in the examination. Of them, 45,724 students passed, resulting in an overall success rate of 37.56%, while 76,015 candidates failed.
District Education Authority (DEA) Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Yaseen Khan Baloch said personal hearings of the headmasters and teachers would be conducted before a final decision on departmental action is made by October 20.
“Termination from service will be the final decision,” he said.
Baloch added that the district administration has directed government schools to complete the Grade 9 and 10 syllabus without any break. Classes will continue six days a week until the winter vacations.
Teachers have also been instructed to focus on improving the quality of education for senior classes so students can perform better in the 2027 annual examinations.
The authority also plans to improve the capacity of teachers and students through different measures to help government schools achieve better results in future examinations.
Meanwhile, the education authority has selected 100 teachers from government schools who performed well during the Grade 5 and 8 annual examinations.
The selected teachers will receive appreciation letters and gifts from the education authority, while students will also be given appreciation letters.
