High Court Seeks Report on Over 50 Pakistanis Missing Abroad

The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has sought a report from the federal government on the disappearance of more than 50 Pakistanis who reportedly went missing after traveling abroad during the past three years.

Justice Arbab Mohammad Tahir issued the notice while hearing a petition filed by Afzal Hussain, a resident of Phalia tehsil in Mandi Bahauddin district.

The petitioner, through his counsel Shafqat Abbas Tarar, told the court that more than 50 young men from the area had traveled abroad through unconventional means but had not been traced since their departure.

The counsel requested the court to direct the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to launch consular inquiries in the countries concerned and ask Pakistani embassies and consulates to help trace the missing citizens.

He also sought an examination of available immigration, travel, and other relevant records to determine how the individuals traveled abroad and establish their current whereabouts.

The petition further requested legal action if any criminal activity was found to be involved and appropriate measures to ensure the safe return of the missing Pakistanis.

During the hearing, the court summoned the Assistant Attorney General (AAG) to the rostrum and directed him to examine the matter and submit a report at the next hearing.

The IHC subsequently issued a notice to the federal government and adjourned the case until Nov. 2.
