Federal Minister for Planning Ahsan Iqbal has announced that the government will mobilize 10 million young Pakistanis as Social Awareness Ambassadors under the URAAN Pakistan initiative to promote child health, nutrition and early childhood development across the country.
Speaking at the closing session of a national dialogue on nutrition and early childhood development, the minister said the youth volunteers would conduct awareness campaigns in their communities.
Ahsan Iqbal said Pakistan’s population has reached around 260 million, with nearly 60 percent comprising young people, making investment in human development a national priority.
He highlighted that almost 40 percent of Pakistani children suffer from stunted growth, stressing that the first five years of life are critical for a child’s physical and mental development.
The minister said nutrition cannot be addressed in isolation and must be supported through better maternal healthcare, clean drinking water, sanitation, hygiene and quality early education.
He emphasized that Pakistan’s progress toward 2047, when the country marks 100 years of independence, depends on raising a healthy, educated and skilled generation.
Ahsan Iqbal also said Pakistan does not suffer from a shortage of policies but from weak implementation and a lack of policy continuity. He called for stronger coordination between the federal and provincial governments.
