Govt Orders Faster Passport Verification For Expats
Federal Minister for Law and Justice Senator Azam Nazeer Tarar has directed authorities to speed up the verification of passports and other essential documents for overseas Pakistanis.
He chaired a meeting of the Committee on Passport Rules on Wednesday, which was attended by officials from the Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Passport Department and other relevant institutions.
Tarar said overseas Pakistanis are a valuable national asset and stressed the need to improve existing procedures to make their access to services easier.
He directed officials to develop an integrated system for timely verification of travel documents and other important records. He also asked them to make the verification process simpler and quicker through an electronic system at the Ministry of Interior.
The minister further ordered that human interaction in the verification process should be reduced as much as possible. He also proposed a one-window verification portal to streamline the process.
Tarar instructed the authorities to prepare proposals for amendments to rules and regulations to further facilitate overseas Pakistanis.
He asked the relevant institutions to present a clear plan and procedure at the next meeting.
