Govt Moves Forward With Rs. 17 Billion Highway Project in KP

The federal government has moved forward with a Rs. 17.012 billion project to widen and improve a 39-kilometer section of National Highway N-45 between Chakdara and Timergara in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP).

The Central Development Working Party (CDWP), chaired by Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal, reviewed the project and recommended it to the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) for final approval.

The project is expected to receive foreign financing from Exim Bank.

The Chakdara–Timergara section forms part of an important northern road corridor connecting Chakdara, Timergara, Dir, and Chitral. The proposed upgrade aims to improve road safety and make travel more convenient for motorists.

It is also expected to support trade and tourism in northern areas, including Kalash, Shandur, and Kumrat, by improving access to these destinations.

The project was among 14 development schemes reviewed by the CDWP at a meeting where proposals worth a combined Rs. 226.48 billion were considered.

However, the road project still requires ECNEC’s approval before it can move forward.
