Google Officially Opens Pakistan Office
Google has officially opened its Pakistan office in Islamabad, marking a major expansion of the technology giant’s presence in the country.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif inaugurated the office on Tuesday during a meeting with Google Vice President for Global Affairs Wilson L. White, with US Chargé d’Affaires Natalie Baker also in attendance.
Shehbaz said Google’s arrival comes as Pakistan accelerates its digital transformation and could create significant opportunities for cooperation in technology, governance and the digital economy.
The prime minister highlighted Pakistan’s young population and said the country could use its growing youth workforce to transform its economic prospects.
White said the opening of the local office was a major milestone for Google after more than a decade of investment and engagement in Pakistan.
He said Google’s objectives align with the government’s ambition to turn Pakistan into a $30 billion IT export hub.
According to White, Google estimates that its activities have contributed more than Rs. 3.9 trillion in economic activity for Pakistani businesses and households over the past decade, while supporting more than 960,000 jobs.
He said Google plans to support Pakistan’s IT export ambitions through investment in people, hardware manufacturing and local businesses.

White also announced that Google Gemini will be made available free of charge to Pakistani students for one year.
He said developing Pakistan’s digital workforce is essential to the country’s broader digital transformation and noted that Google has already helped train more than 1 million Pakistanis.
