Google is expanding Gemini Spark with new Google Photos controls that allow the personal AI agent to edit images, organize photo libraries, create albums, and carry out other tasks directly from the Gemini app.
Google Photos lead Shimrit Ben-Yair announced the new capabilities on Thursday evening, saying they will roll out over the next few weeks to eligible Gemini AI Pro and Ultra subscribers in the US using English.
Google has not said when, or whether, the feature will become available in other countries.
What Gemini Spark Can Do With Google Photos
After connecting Google Photos, users can ask Gemini Spark to perform tasks across their photo library using natural-language prompts.
The agent can edit images, curate albums, and automatically create shared albums containing selected favorite photos.
It can also identify information inside images and use it for other tasks. For example, users can ask Spark to take a photo of a concert flyer and turn its details into a calendar appointment.
Spark can also carry out broader workflows involving users’ photo libraries rather than requiring each task to be completed manually.
The integration is intended to automate repetitive photo-management tasks as personal photo libraries continue to grow.

Google Pushes AI Into More Everyday Tasks
The update is another example of Google integrating AI into its existing consumer services in an effort to make the technology more useful for everyday tasks.
It comes as the wider AI industry faces questions over how effectively companies have explained the practical benefits of AI to consumers.
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman told Bloomberg this week that the industry had “done a terrible job” communicating the benefits of AI technology, contributing to backlash in communities around the world.
The report noted that features such as automated photo albums can make individual tasks easier but may not appear particularly transformative on their own.
At the same time, competition between AI companies is encouraging businesses to announce increasingly small AI-powered additions instead of waiting to present a broader picture of how AI is changing their products.
How to Use Gemini Spark With Google Photos
Users first need to connect their Google Photos account to Gemini.
They can then enable Spark from the top corner of the Gemini app and enter a prompt describing what they want the agent to do with their photos.
The new Google Photos capabilities will begin reaching eligible Gemini AI Pro and Ultra users in the US over the coming weeks.
