The Sindh School Education and Literacy Department has reduced school hours by one hour across the province with immediate effect, following the direction of Education Minister Syed Sardar Ali Shah.
According to a department circular issued on September 9, the revised timings will remain in effect until further orders. Schools will continue to operate for five days a week, as before.
The circular states that the new timings represent a one-hour reduction from the schedules prescribed in the department’s previous circular. All heads of educational institutions and relevant field officers have been directed to ensure strict implementation of the revised school timings.
The department also clarified that all other terms, conditions and instructions contained in the previous circular will remain unchanged and continue to apply. The decision follows the education minister’s announcement a day earlier that school hours would be reduced by one hour amid severe heat across the province.
The department has not specified new start and closing times in the latest circular, instead stating that the timings prescribed in the previous circular will be reduced by one hour.
