The federal government has launched an awareness campaign to protect the public from fraudsters using the Prime Minister’s special cheap petrol relief scheme to scam people, Federal Minister for IT and Telecommunications Shaza Fatima said on Monday.
The Ministry of IT and Telecommunications has completed preparations for an anti-fraud campaign aimed at warning citizens about fake calls and messages being sent in the name of the petrol relief scheme.
Shaza Fatima urged people to remain cautious of calls and messages claiming to offer registration, payments or other benefits under the scheme.
The minister said details of people registered for the Prime Minister’s cheap petrol relief scheme would be released today.
She added that the government was also working to resolve problems faced by people during registration.
Some registrations are failing because applicants select the wrong province or enter their date of birth in an incorrect format.
Shaza advised applicants to select the province where their vehicle is registered when completing the registration process.
The government recently announced a special relief scheme to provide cheaper petrol to eligible citizens following a sharp increase in fuel prices.
