Renowned Businessman Shot Dead While Chasing His Stolen SUV
Rehan Ashraf, owner of the GMSA company, was shot dead in Faisalabad on the night of October 17, while trying to recover his stolen Toyota Cygnus SUV. The vehicle had been taken from valet parking at the city’s Chenab Club, and he was shot when he caught up with it on Jaranwala Road.
According to the First Information Report (FIR), Rehan arrived at Chenab Club around 9 pm with his brother, Muhammad Hassan Ashraf, and some friends. They came in a white Toyota Cygnus registered in Islamabad and handed the vehicle and its keys to a valet parking attendant before going in for dinner.
Tracker Alerts Exposed the Theft
Before the group could start their meal, the vehicle’s tracking device began sending alerts that the car was being switched on and off. They rushed back to the parking area and found the SUV missing. The FIR states that the valet attendant who had been given the vehicle and its keys had taken it.
Hassan said he immediately contacted the tracking company and called the Police Emergency helpline 15. The tracking company then began sharing the vehicle’s live location, and Rehan and his companions followed it in another car.
Shot at Close Range on Jaranwala Road
The live location led them to Jaranwala Road near the Bijli Ghar stop, where the SUV was reportedly stuck in slow traffic opposite a UBL branch. Traffic was crawling in the area due to construction work on the Metro project.
Rehan got out and ran towards his vehicle, with his companions a few steps behind. As he approached, he reportedly asked the driver why he was taking his car. Two unidentified men then stepped out, and one of them allegedly fired a pistol at him.
The bullet hit Rehan on the right side of his neck, and he collapsed. The suspects fled towards Bijli Ghar while brandishing their weapons. Rehan was rushed to hospital but could not survive his injuries.
Police Register Murder and Robbery Case
Faisalabad Police registered a case on the complaint of Hassan under Sections 392 and 302 of the Pakistan Penal Code, which cover robbery and murder. The complaint names two unidentified men as the suspects and says the complainant and other eyewitnesses can identify them if they are caught.
According to media reports, Rehan was the son of Haji Ashraf Qadri, owner of the GMSA Group. CPO Faisalabad Tanvir Hussain has taken notice of the incident and sought a report from SP Iqbal Division Saeed Ahmed, while police are working to trace and arrest the suspects.
