PVMC Warns Students Against Unapproved Veterinary Degree Programs

Pakistan Veterinary Medical Council (PVMC) has warned students and parents to verify the approval status of veterinary degree programs before taking admission.

In a public alert, the council said several public and private universities and institutions across Pakistan are offering programs in Veterinary and Animal Sciences, including DVM, MSc/MPhil and PhD degrees. However, PVMC has not approved every program being offered by these institutions.

The council cautioned that approval can vary from one degree to another within the same university. An institution may have approval for its DVM program while its MS/MPhil or PhD programs remain unapproved.

PVMC said some institutions have also presented degrees and certificates as council-approved even though their relevant programs do not have PVMC approval.

Students who obtain veterinary qualifications from institutions or programs not approved by PVMC may face problems obtaining registration with the council.

According to the alert, graduates of unapproved programs may be unable to secure registration as a Registered Veterinary Medical Practitioner (RVMP). Without the required registration, they may also become ineligible for government jobs related to veterinary services.

PVMC Lists Approval Status of 20 Institutions

The council has published the approval status of DVM, MS/MPhil and PhD programs at 20 institutions.

The list includes the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences Lahore, University of Agriculture Faisalabad, Agriculture University Peshawar, Sindh Agriculture University Tando Jam, Gomal University D.I. Khan, Pir Mehr Ali Shah Arid Agriculture University Rawalpindi, University of Poonch Rawalakot and Lasbela University of Agriculture, Water and Marine Sciences.

It also covers Royal College of Veterinary Sciences Lahore, Bahauddin Zakariya University Multan, Islamia University Bahawalpur, College of Veterinary and Animal Sciences Jhang, Shaheed Benazir Bhutto University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences Sakrand, Ziauddin University Karachi, Cholistan University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences Bahawalpur and several other institutions.

PVMC has marked some programs as fully approved, while others carry approval only for specific disciplines or for programs started within a particular period.

PVMC has approved Gomal University’s DVM program but has not approved its MS/MPhil and PhD programs.

The council has also marked the University of Poonch, Rawalakot, as unapproved for DVM, MS/MPhil and PhD programs.

Several other institutions have PVMC approval for DVM but not for postgraduate veterinary programs.

Students Told to Verify Before Admission

PVMC has advised students to check the approval status of the exact university, campus, degree and discipline before taking admission.

The council has advised prospective students and their parents to verify each program through official PVMC records. It also urged them not to rely only on university advertisements or admission material.
