Punjab Makes Annual Vehicle Fitness Certificate Mandatory
The Punjab government has introduced another requirement for vehicle owners by making an annual fitness certificate mandatory for all private vehicles.
Under the new law, vehicle owners will have to get their vehicles tested every year. If a vehicle is found without a fitness certificate, its owner will first face a challan, and continued violation may also lead to the vehicle being seized.
The province currently has only 13 fitness centres to inspect millions of vehicles, which may create difficulties for citizens seeking the certificate.
The government has set an annual fee of Rs500 to Rs2,000 for the fitness certificate, adding another financial burden on vehicle owners.
