Punjab Clarifies Viral Colleges and Universities Holiday Notification
The Punjab Higher Education Department (HED) has clarified that a notification claiming all public and private colleges and universities across the province will remain closed on Monday, October 12, is fake.
In a public warning, the department urged students, parents and educational institutions to beware of misleading notifications circulating on social media. It confirmed that colleges and universities in Punjab will remain open on Monday, October 12, 2026, rejecting the claim made in the fake notification.
The fabricated notification, dated October 11, purported to have been issued by the Punjab Higher Education Department and cited the law and order situation in the province as the reason for the proposed closure.

However, the department dismissed the notification and advised the public to verify such announcements through official channels before sharing them.
The HED has previously warned the public about fake notifications and established a dedicated cell to verify information and prevent confusion caused by false announcements.
The department has also provided a helpline at 042-99210039-42 for confirmation of notifications and circulars. The department urged the public to rely on its official communications and avoid spreading unverified information about educational institutions.
