A Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) flight from Islamabad to Manchester declared an emergency shortly before landing after a passenger suffered a medical emergency onboard.
Flight PK-701 was flying over the North Sea at around 7:52 p.m. Pakistan time when the pilots activated emergency code 7700, about 30 minutes before its scheduled landing in Manchester.
The emergency declaration was made after the passenger’s condition deteriorated and immediate medical assistance was required. The aircraft remained on the emergency code until it landed at Manchester Airport, allowing it to receive priority for landing.
Emergency services and paramedics were waiting at the airport and boarded the aircraft after landing to provide immediate medical assistance to the affected passenger.
Meanwhile, the British Royal Air Force dismissed rumors circulating on social media that the PIA aircraft had been intercepted or escorted by a fighter jet.
The reports of a fighter jet escort emerged after the aircraft declared the emergency. However, the Royal Air Force said the claims were false.
The incident did not involve any security threat to the aircraft, with the emergency declaration linked to the passenger’s medical condition.
