Pakistan currently has active agreements with 105 Independent Power Producers (IPPs), with several contracts extending beyond 2050, according to documents seen by ProPakistani.
The Ministry of Energy documents show that most of the 105 agreements have more than 20 years remaining on their contractual terms.
The incumbent government signed new agreements with four IPPs in 2025. An agreement with the Jamshoro Coal Power Plant was signed on July 30, 2025, for 30 years.
The government also signed a three-year agreement with Kot Addu Power Plant on June 3, 2025.
The documents show that some IPP agreements will remain in force even after 2050, highlighting the long-term nature of Pakistan’s power sector commitments.
The data further shows that 27 IPP agreements were signed during the 2018-22 government, with most having more than 20 years remaining on their terms.
