Pakistan and Gates Foundation Expand Partnership in AI and Digital Economy
Pakistan and the Gates Foundation have agreed to expand cooperation in artificial intelligence, the digital economy, data systems, health technology and financial inclusion.
The Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication announced the development on Thursday following a meeting between Federal Minister for IT and Telecommunication Shaza Fatima Khawaja and a high-level Gates Foundation delegation.
Both sides agreed to strengthen cooperation across several technology and development areas. These include artificial intelligence, digital economy development, data systems, health technology and financial inclusion.
The Gates Foundation delegation acknowledged Pakistan’s progress in digital transformation and highlighted reforms and initiatives undertaken by the IT Ministry in recent years.
The planned cooperation will also cover capacity building and the wider use of technology for development.
The agreement adds technology-focused cooperation to the broader areas of engagement between Pakistan and the Gates Foundation, with both sides looking to support digital and technology-driven development in the country.
During the meeting, Khawaja briefed the delegation on the government’s “Digital Nation Pakistan” agenda.
The initiative aims to accelerate inclusive digital growth, modernize public service delivery, and strengthen Pakistan’s digital economy.
Khawaja said international partnerships, particularly cooperation with the Gates Foundation, would be important for advancing Pakistan’s digital transformation and supporting the government’s goal of building a digitally empowered country.
