Operation Launched Against Illegal Buildings Along Key Road in Islamabad

The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has launched an operation against encroachments, illegal constructions, and non-conforming buildings along Islamabad Expressway.

The CDA’s Building Control Section and Enforcement Directorate, in collaboration with the district administration and Islamabad Police, have started a sealing and regularization campaign along Islamabad Expressway Service Road East.

The authority has taken action against more than 50 construction units so far, including 34 units along the Sohan-Iqbal Town stretch and 24 between Korang Bridge, Korang Police Station and Gulberg Greens. Officials are surveying the remaining areas to identify further violations.

The CDA said several commercial buildings violated approved building plans and lacked mandatory fire safety arrangements.

The authority said it had served notices on the owners before taking action, giving them time to rectify violations, complete fire safety arrangements, regularize their constructions and clear outstanding government dues.

A CDA spokesman said the notice period had expired, but several owners failed to meet the requirements. The authority subsequently took action under applicable building control regulations. The CDA stressed that commercial buildings must comply with approved building plans and maintain essential fire safety measures, including emergency exits and fire safety equipment.
