HEC Opens Registration for Law Admission Test

The Higher Education Commission (HEC) has opened registration for the Law Admission Test (LAT) 2026 for students seeking admission to four-year LLB degree programs in Pakistan.

According to the official notice issued by HEC’s Education Testing Council (ETC), candidates can register online until October 20, 2026. The test is tentatively scheduled for November 15, 2026.

Students seeking admission to four-year undergraduate LLB programs at HEC- and Pakistan Bar Council-recognised public and private universities and institutions must take the LAT.

Who Can Apply

Candidates who have passed the Higher Secondary School Certificate (HSSC) or an equivalent qualification with 12 years of education are eligible to apply.

Students who have appeared in their final HSSC or equivalent examinations and are waiting for their results can also register.

Candidates who have already passed LAT may reappear to improve their scores for merit-based admission to public-sector universities and colleges.

LAT 2026 Test Pattern

The test carries a total of 100 marks, while candidates need at least 50 marks to pass.

Candidates can write the essay and personal statement in either English or Urdu. Both have a maximum limit of 200 words.

The English section includes synonyms, antonyms, and prepositions, while the Urdu section focuses on vocabulary. The mathematics portion covers basic maths.

How to Apply for LAT 2026

Candidates must submit their applications online through the HEC Education Testing Council portal. After completing their profile and registration details, applicants must formally submit the application. Applications left in saved or incomplete mode will not be considered.

HEC has advised candidates to carefully check their name, CNIC number, mobile number, and other personal information before submission.

Applicants are not allowed to register using another person’s CNIC or personal details.

Roll Number Slips

Candidates will be able to download their roll number slips from the ETC portal. HEC said roll number slips will also be sent to applicants through their registered email addresses around one week before the test.

Applicants should provide a valid email address and active mobile number during registration, as test-related information will also be shared through email and SMS.

Candidates must bring a printed roll number slip along with their original CNIC or passport to the test centre.

Applicants under the age of 18 must bring their original B-Form or NADRA Juvenile Card, along with the original SSC or HSSC certificate carrying their photograph.

LAT Test Centres

HEC will conduct the Law Admission Test in major cities across Pakistan. Candidates can choose their preferred test centre during registration, but they cannot change it after submitting the application.

HEC may assign candidates to another test city or centre if fewer than 250 applicants select a particular location.

Important Instructions

Test centres will not allow mobile phones or electronic devices, including calculators, recording devices, communication equipment, and imaging devices. Candidates must also not take, upload, or share images of question papers or answer sheets.

According to HEC, ETC conducts LAT on a quarterly basis in major cities of Pakistan. Students can check the ETC Test Calendar 2026 for upcoming dates.
