Govt to Activate Social Media Regulatory Authority Soon
The federal government plans to activate the Social Media Regulatory Authority soon as it seeks to strengthen online regulation and address growing cybersecurity threats, Federal Minister for Information Technology Shaza Fatima Khawaja said on Thursday.
Speaking at the closing ceremony of Cybersecurity Awareness Week, she said Pakistan needed to improve its cybersecurity awareness and incident reporting mechanisms as the country moved towards greater digitalization.
She said the growing use of artificial intelligence (AI) was making cyber threats more complex, increasing the need to protect digital systems and personal information.
The minister said the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) had been activated under the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA).
IT Minister said cybersecurity awareness was necessary across all sections of society, particularly as more children began using social media and faced risks such as cyberbullying.
She called for stronger digital safety measures, warning that information shared online could expose individuals and their families to fraud and other security threats.
