Emergency Alert Issued for Residents of Makkah After Yemen Strikes

Saudi Arabia issued emergency alerts for Makkah, Jeddah and Taif on Tuesday, warning residents and visitors of a “potential danger” amid escalating attacks by Yemen’s Houthi group.

The alerts were issued through the National Early Warning Platform for Emergencies, with the Saudi Civil Defense urging people to remain calm, seek shelter and follow official safety instructions.

Authorities did not immediately specify the nature of the danger. The alerts were later lifted, with Civil Defense saying the danger had passed in Makkah and urging people to continue following official instructions.

Residents were advised to move to the nearest safe place, preferably inside a building or an interior room away from windows. People were also told to stay away from open areas, balconies and rooftops.

Those outdoors were advised to enter the nearest building or seek shelter behind a solid barrier. Motorists receiving an alert were instructed to pull over away from bridges and high-rise buildings.

The alerts came after Houthi forces launched ballistic missiles and drones at several Saudi cities, including Taif, Khamis Mushait and Abha. Saudi authorities said 13 civilians were injured and seven homes and two vehicles were damaged in Monday’s attacks.

The latest alerts mark the first such warning for Makkah since the recent escalation involving the Houthis, according to Saudi Civil Defense.
