Another Sinkhole Appears on Newly-Built Road in Lahore
Another sinkhole has appeared on a newly constructed main road in Johar Town, raising fresh concerns over the quality of construction work carried out by the Lahore Development Authority’s (LDA) Engineering Wing.
The sinkhole appeared while a large trailer was passing over the road, causing its right side to become stuck in the damaged section.
The incident raised serious questions about the quality of the road construction, with citizens calling on Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz to take immediate action against the project director concerned and blacklist the contractor responsible for the project.
The road was completed recently, while the Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) also installed a major drainage system in the area. The same road had previously caved in at several locations, resulting in multiple accidents due to the sudden appearance of craters.
LDA sources said that when complaints are received regarding illegal construction, the authority usually suspends the officers concerned. However, they claimed that no such action was taken in cases involving engineering faults.
Several Johar Town residents said they felt unsafe while traveling on roads in the area. They demanded strict action against the contractor and the officials responsible for checking the quality of construction materials used in the project.
An LDA spokesperson said an inquiry would be conducted and action would be taken in accordance with the law.
