Domino’s Trolls Sony For Ending Partnership with Hideo Kojima

Domino’s Pizza UK has taken another shot at Sony after PlayStation ended its involvement with Hideo Kojima’s upcoming action-espionage game Physint, which has now found a new publishing partner in Xbox.

Reacting to the news, Domino’s joked: “PlayStation thought the game was called physical and had to back out.”

The post is a direct reference to both the name Physint and Sony’s controversial decision to stop releasing new PlayStation games on physical discs from January 2028. Sony announced that shift earlier this year, saying future releases would move to digital formats.

Sony Unexpectedly Dropped Physint

PlayStation announced Thursday that it had made the “difficult decision” to step away from its collaboration with Kojima Productions on Physint.

Sony did not give a specific reason for the decision but stressed that its wider relationship with Kojima remains strong.

Kojima gave more detail, saying his studio unexpectedly received notice from Sony in mid-June that the Physint project was being cancelled on PlayStation’s side. Kojima Productions then spent roughly three months searching for another partner.

Physint was originally announced in January 2024 as a new action-espionage title developed by Kojima Productions with Sony Interactive Entertainment. Kojima said at the time that the project would blur the boundaries between movies and games while building on nearly three decades of experience developing espionage titles.

Xbox Steps In to Save Physint

Kojima Productions has now confirmed that Xbox will become Physint’s new partner, expanding an existing relationship between the two companies that already includes the upcoming horror game OD.

Xbox CEO Asha Sharma said the company was honored that Kojima had chosen Xbox for the project, while Kojima said both sides share the same creative vision.

The expanded partnership will also cover possible projects in film and television, although no further details have been announced.

Domino’s Has Trolled PlayStation Before

The latest joke is not Domino’s first attack on Sony’s physical-media strategy.

When PlayStation announced in July that it would stop producing physical discs for new games from 2028, Domino’s UK published a fake corporate announcement claiming it would also stop making physical pizzas and instead let customers download “digital pizza” codes.

That earlier campaign makes its Physint joke particularly pointed: Sony has now walked away from a game whose name gave Domino’s another opportunity to mock PlayStation’s move away from anything “physical.”
