Construction of three new underpasses on Peshawar Road in Rawalpindi is set to begin in the first week of September as part of the final phase of the city’s signal free corridor project.
The underpasses will be built at Qasim Market Chowk, Charing Cross Chowk and Qabristan Chowk at a combined estimated cost of Rs. 8.835 billion.
Authorities have nearly completed the relocation of utility services at the three sites and have also finalized alternative traffic routes to keep vehicles moving during construction.
The projects will form part of the final section of the Kachehri Chowk to Chungi No. 26 and Motorway Chowk signal free corridor. An underpass at Golra Mor has already been completed under the same project.
Once completed, the signal free corridor will provide motorists with easier access to Islamabad International Airport, the Islamabad Lahore and Peshawar motorways, and the Hazara motorway. According to the project plan, motorists will be able to travel from Kachehri Chowk to Motorway Chowk in around 20 minutes after the corridor becomes fully operational.
