Claude Can Now Send Gmail Messages Without Your Approval

Anthropic has expanded Claude’s integration with Google Workspace, giving the AI assistant more control over Gmail and Google Drive.

Paid users can now ask Claude to draft, reply to, or forward emails in Gmail. Users can also decide whether Claude must ask for approval before sending those messages.

By default, Claude asks users for permission before carrying out Gmail actions.

However, users can allow Claude to perform certain actions without asking every time. On Team and Enterprise plans, organization owners decide whether members are allowed to enable this option.

This means Claude can potentially handle and send Gmail messages without requiring the user to review every email beforehand.

Users who do not want these capabilities can disable them through the chat interface. For organizations, owners and primary owners can turn them off through Organization settings > Connectors.

Claude Gets More Control Over Google Drive

Anthropic has also expanded what Claude can do with Google Drive.

Claude can now share, move, and trash files stored in Google Drive. The same approval system applies, with Claude asking for permission by default before taking these actions.

Team and Enterprise administrators can decide whether users are allowed to let Claude perform these tasks without requesting approval every time.

Some Limitations Remain

Claude’s Gmail integration still has some restrictions.

Anthropic says performance can vary with large mailboxes. Claude also cannot access the contents of email attachments, while some advanced Gmail filters may not work.

There are limitations with Google Drive as well. Claude can extract text from Drive files, but it cannot process images, comments, or suggestions embedded inside those files.
