Adelaide Strikers Sign Pakistani Fast Bowler for BBL 16

Adelaide Strikers have strengthened their pace attack by signing Pakistan fast bowler Haris Rauf for the entire Big Bash League (BBL 16) 2026-27.

The 32-year-old has played 33 Big Bash matches for Melbourne Stars since 2019. However, he will represent the Strikers throughout the upcoming campaign.

Haris Rauf is one of three international recruits in head coach Tim Paine’s squad. Former England captain Ben Stokes and New Zealand batter Mark Chapman are the other overseas players.

The Pakistan fast bowler expressed excitement about joining the Strikers and playing alongside some of the team’s biggest names.

“The Strikers have a strong squad with world-class players like Ben Stokes, Matt Short (Strikers captain) and Mark Chapman, so I’m really excited about the opportunity to play alongside them,” Rauf said in a statement.

“We’ve got a talented group and I’m looking forward to contributing wherever I can to help the team push deep into the finals and compete for a championship.”

Rauf returns to the Big Bash after taking a career-best-equaling 20 wickets last season. BBL 15 marked Rauf’s most successful campaign since his debut season with Melbourne Stars. He initially joined the franchise as an injury replacement for South African fast-bowling legend Dale Steyn.

Rauf quickly established himself as one of the fastest bowlers in the competition. He made headlines by taking a hat-trick in his first Big Bash match and subsequently earned a place in the official Team of the Tournament for BBL|09.

He received the honor again last season for his consistent performances.

Adelaide Strikers head coach Tim Paine believes Rauf’s experience and pace will make him a valuable addition to the squad.

“Haris (Rauf) is a proven match-winner who has performed at the highest level in international cricket and franchise competitions around the world,” Paine said.

“He’s one of the fastest bowlers in world cricket and has the ability to change a game in an instant. We’re thrilled to welcome Haris to Adelaide for the entire tournament.

“Having all of our international players available for the entire tournament was a key priority throughout our recruitment process and we believe it will be a significant advantage for our side.”
