The nationwide goods transporters’ strike has entered its ninth day as federal and provincial government representatives are set to hold crucial negotiations with transporters at Governor House Karachi today, August 16.
Federal Minister for Communications Abdul Aleem Khan and Punjab Transport Minister Bilal Akbar are arriving in Karachi for the talks, while Sindh Governor, Sindh Transport Minister and other government representatives will also attend the meeting.
Muhammad Owais Chaudhry Advocate, representing the transporters, said the country’s goods transport system remains effectively halted.
He said transporters do not want confrontation with the government and are seeking a practical and lasting solution to their demands.
He made it clear that the strike will not be called off merely on the basis of assurances or promises. He emphasized on require concrete decisions and implementation of agreed measures before ending the protest.
Chaudhry urged transporters across the country to remain peaceful, maintain unity and avoid unverified information or rumours.
He expressed hope that Sunday’s negotiations would produce a positive outcome and lead to meaningful progress toward resolving the dispute.
However, he reiterated that the nationwide peaceful strike will continue until the transporters’ demands are formally accepted and practical steps are taken for their implementation.
