At least 241 eligible female officers of the Punjab School Education Department have allegedly been overlooked in promotions from Grade 18 to Grade 19, while 515 male officials have been promoted.
The matter was also raised in the Punjab Assembly, where lawmakers expressed concern over the long delay in processing the promotion cases.
Following repeated demands, the Promotion Selection Board-II recently approved and notified promotions for male officers. However, promotion cases of female officers, who belong to the same cadre and meet similar eligibility criteria, have still not been finalized.
Sources said the department had previously processed promotion cases of male and female officers together, ensuring equal implementation of policy. This practice appears to have changed in the latest round, leaving hundreds of female officers waiting without any explanation.
Affected officers said they had completed all required formalities, including service length, performance evaluations, annual performance reports and departmental clearances.
A teacher, Saba Malak, said many female officials, including school heads, had been eligible for promotion for years but were still awaiting approval.
Officials familiar with the process said delays in verifying seniority lists, disciplinary clearance and administrative observations had slowed the cases. They added that file movement between departments and approvals from multiple forums had also created bottlenecks.
