The Pakistan Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO) has said that a total solar eclipse will occur on August 12, marking a major astronomical event of the year.
The total phase of the eclipse will be visible from Greenland, Iceland and northern Spain, where the Moon will completely cover the Sun for observers within the path of totality.
Parts of Europe, Africa and North America will also witness the eclipse in its partial phase, as the Moon will cover only a portion of the Sun from those regions. However, the solar eclipse will not be visible from Pakistan. SUPARCO said people in no city across the country will be able to observe either the total or partial phase of the eclipse.
The eclipse occurs when the Moon passes between the Sun and Earth and blocks sunlight from reaching parts of the Earth’s surface. The extent to which people can observe the event depends on their location in relation to the eclipse’s path.
SUPARCO said the August 12 eclipse will therefore remain unobservable from Pakistan, while people in regions falling within its path will be able to witness the event.
