Russia and Pakistan are working to launch their first freight rail services connecting Moscow with Faisalabad and Karachi in both directions, Russian Ambassador Albert Khorev said.
Khorev made the comments in an interview with Russian newspaper Izvestia, saying the two countries are working with their respective partners to establish freight rail links on the Moscow Faisalabad and Moscow Karachi routes.
The ambassador said the two sides are also considering possible participation by Belarus in the proposed rail network.
The project has faced several delays due to heightened geopolitical tensions in the region during 2025 and early 2026, Khorev said.
He added that the parties are currently finalizing an agreement covering freight services and identifying companies in the countries along the proposed routes that are interested in transporting their goods through the corridor.
The proposed links would provide a new rail route for moving commercial cargo between Russia and Pakistan, although the ambassador did not provide a timeline for the launch of the services.
