The Hyderabad division administration has imposed a complete ban on swimming and bathing in the Indus River, canals, ponds, distributaries and lakes under Section 144 of the CrPC.
Commissioner Fayaz Hussain Abbasi issued the notification on Sunday after a series of drowning incidents in Hyderabad and other parts of the division left more than a dozen people dead in recent days.
Officials said the ban aims to protect citizens from drowning and other water-related dangers. The order takes effect immediately and will remain in force for 30 days, though authorities may revise or withdraw it if needed.
District administrations across the Hyderabad division have been directed to ensure strict enforcement and ask the public to follow the restrictions.
The district administration of Thatta has also warned people not to enter water bodies during the monsoon season, citing the risk of flooding and rising water levels. Police have been instructed to take action against violators under Section 188 of the Pakistan Penal Code.
The warning comes after several fatal incidents. On Saturday, three youths went missing while bathing in the Indus River between Hyderabad and Kotri. Rescue teams recovered two bodies on Sunday, while one remained missing.
In another incident, an eight-year-old girl went missing near Pathar Point under the Mehran Bridge on Friday and was not recovered by late Sunday evening.
In Jacobabad and Thull, five children also drowned in canals, drains and a pond on Sunday, deepening concerns over water safety in the region.
