Meat From Lumpy Skin Disease-Infected Animals Seized in Lahore
The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) has destroyed 900 kilograms of meat from animals infected with lumpy skin disease during an operation in Lahore’s Kot Lakhpat area.
Food safety teams recovered the meat from a beef shop and seized the vehicle used to transport the supply. PFA Director General Mansoor Ahmed said the meat had developed a strong foul smell and changed color.
A veterinary specialist examined the stock and declared it unfit for human consumption. He said the supplier had illegally slaughtered animals infected with lumpy skin disease and prepared their meat for sale in the market.
The authority destroyed the entire 900kg consignment on the spot to prevent its sale and consumption.
The operation followed the director general’s instructions as the PFA moved to stop the distribution of unsafe meat.
