Karachi Mayor Calls for Stronger Action Against Stray Dogs
Karachi Mayor Barrister Murtaza Wahab has called for immediate action to address the growing concern over stray dog attacks, saying neutering alone is not enough to resolve the issue.
The mayor said authorities have received complaints of dog bites involving men, women, and elderly citizens. He stressed the need for an effective strategy instead of shifting responsibility to other institutions.
Referring to Turkey’s decision to kill stray dogs, Wahab said the Karachi administration would face a campaign against it if it adopted a similar approach.
He emphasized that public safety must take priority over political debate and urged the media to help build consensus on practical measures to protect citizens from dog attacks and the risk of rabies.
