Apple Watch Series 12 and Ultra 4 Get New Health Features and Battery Boost

Apple has launched the Apple Watch Series 12 and Apple Watch Ultra 4 with a new S11 chip, improved heart-rate sensors, and new health features. The Ultra 4 also brings a significant battery-life increase, while the Series 12 improves battery performance during outdoor workouts.

Both models use upgraded optical and electrical heart-rate sensors as part of a new Health Sensing System. Apple says its testing involving more than 1,000 participants found the new system to be the most accurate heart-rate sensing system in a wearable.

The smartwatches come alongside the iPhone 18 Pro, 18 Pro Max, and iPhone Duo launch.

New Health Features

The Series 12 and Ultra 4 introduce a new Readiness score ranging from 0 to 10. It is designed to indicate how prepared a user is for different levels of training.

Apple has also added Health Age through the redesigned Health app and its new Longevity tab. The feature combines metrics including VO₂ max, resting heart rate, heart-rate variability and sleep to estimate whether a person’s Health Age is younger or older than their biological age.

Health Age is not limited to the new watches. Apple says it will also come to older Apple Watch models later this year, initially in the US.

Audio Intelligence and Siri Features

The new watches use their built-in microphone for a feature Apple calls Audio Intelligence. It can alert people with hearing difficulties to important sounds around them.

The system can also help users recall parts of conversations they may have forgotten.

The new Siri app can automatically create a title and key points for a recap. Shazam can also identify music playing nearby and display the song.

Apple Watch Ultra 4 Battery

Battery life is one of the biggest changes on the Apple Watch Ultra 4. Apple rates the new model for up to 50 hours of normal use, compared with 42 hours on the previous generation.

That represents an eight-hour increase. In Low Power Mode, the Ultra 4 can last up to 84 hours, which is 12 hours longer than the previous model.

Apple does not disclose the battery capacity in milliamp hours.

Apple Watch Series 12 Battery

The Apple Watch Series 12 is rated for up to 24 hours of normal use and 38 hours in Low Power Mode. Those figures remain unchanged from the Series 11.

However, Apple has increased the rated battery life during outdoor workouts to up to 10 hours. That is a 25% improvement over the previous generation.

Design and Finishes

The Apple Watch Series 12 is available in 42mm and 46mm sizes, with three case materials and eight finishes.

The aluminum models come in Dark Bronze, Black, Light Gold and Space Grey. The first three are new colors.

Apple has also upgraded the display glass on the aluminum models to Ceramic Shield 2. The company claims it is 60% tougher than Ion-X glass.

The titanium models are available in Radiant Gold and Natural Titanium. Apple says the titanium cases are 3D printed using 100% recycled titanium. The aluminum used in the watches is also 100% recycled.

Ceramic is returning to the regular Apple Watch lineup with Pearl White and Night Blue finishes.

The Apple Watch Ultra 4 uses Grade 5 titanium and comes in Natural Titanium and Black Titanium.

New Watch Bands

Apple has also introduced new finishes for its watch bands.

The Trail Loop comes in Dark Umber, Sand and Burgundy. The Alpine Loop is available in Desert, Dark Olive and Burgundy.

The Ocean Band now has a translucent finish and comes in Translucent Gray, Translucent Kelp, and Translucent Black.

Price and Availability

Thankfully, there has been no price hike for the new Apple Watches. The Series 12 starts at $399, while the Apple Watch Ultra 4 starts at $799.
