Google Launches Pics as Canva Rival But With AI Image Editing
Google has started rolling out Google Pics, a new AI-powered service for generating images and making precise edits to existing ones.
Despite the similar name, Google Pics is separate from Google Photos and Google Images.
Google describes Pics as a suite of fine-tuned editing tools designed to let users generate images and make targeted changes instead of always creating something from scratch.
Powered by Nano Banana
Google Pics uses the company’s Nano Banana image technology, although Google has not specified which version powers the service.
Pics will work both as a standalone product and as part of Google Workspace.
The company says the integration will let users edit images directly inside the apps where they are already working instead of moving content between different tools.
Coming to Docs, Slides and Drive
Google Pics integration starts with Google Docs and Google Slides, with the rollout beginning today.
Support for Google Drive will follow in the coming weeks.
Google says the broader Google Pics rollout will also happen gradually over the next several weeks, meaning the service may not immediately appear for all eligible users.
Limited to Paid Users
Google Pics is currently restricted to Google AI Pro and Google AI Ultra subscribers.
It is also available to most Google Workspace business customers.
Google has not announced broader availability for free users.
