The Balochistan Assembly on Monday adopted several bills and resolutions, including legislation on child labour and reproductive healthcare rights.
The House passed the Balochistan Employment of Children (Prohibition and Regulation) (Amendment) Bill 2026 and the Balochistan Protection and Promotion of Reproductive Healthcare Rights Bill 2026.
It also approved a bill for the construction of safe homes in different districts and adopted a resolution calling for the effective implementation of the National Action Plan to strengthen law and order and counter terrorism, extremism and unrest.
The Balochistan Water Resources Management Bill 2026 and the Code of Criminal Procedure (Balochistan Amendment) Bill 2026 were referred to the relevant standing committees for further consideration.
During the session, which was presided over by Speaker Abdul Khaliq Achakzai, lawmakers also debated the overall law and order situation.
Treasury and opposition members called for a joint strategy and an in-camera session to address the province’s security challenges.
Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti said liquor shops in the province were meant for non-Muslims and had existed before Pakistan came into being.
He said he did not consume alcohol and added that if any liquor shop had been named after a particular locality, the government would either change its name or shut it down.
MPA Rahmat Saleh Baloch moved a call-attention notice regarding the implementation of the employment quota for families of deceased persons in Panjgur. The notice was disposed of after the provincial health minister gave an assurance.
Responding to another call-attention notice by MPA Maulana Hidayatur Rehman on dams and canals, the provincial irrigation minister told the House that 886 dams had been completed in Balochistan, while 223 were under construction.
The notice was also disposed of after the minister’s assurance.
The House also adopted a joint resolution calling for effective legislation to prevent acid attacks in the province and ensure protection for victims.
MPA Shahida Rauf moved the resolution on behalf of the Women Parliamentary Caucus. It condemned the attack involving Dr Mahnoor Nasar and urged effective legal measures to prevent such incidents in future.
The debate witnessed heated exchanges among lawmakers, but female members later expressed solidarity with women affected by acid attacks.
