The University of Peshawar Retired Employees Council has called for practical steps to establish the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Higher Education Commission, saying the move would help make the province’s education system more effective.
The matter was discussed at a general body meeting of the council on Monday, chaired by former vice-chancellor Prof Dr Ihsan Ali. Former vice-chancellors, retired teachers and employees also attended the meeting.
Participants discussed several issues related to retired university employees, especially their administrative and financial matters.
They were informed that a committee had been formed to draft a constitution for the University of Peshawar Retired Employees Council, which will be presented for approval at the next meeting.
The meeting also discussed annual service certificates and urged the university administration to take up the matter with the relevant authorities and make arrangements with NADRA so retired employees do not have to repeatedly submit the certificates.
Participants praised the vice-chancellor, pro-vice-chancellor, registrar and other senior officials for taking effective steps to address the concerns of retired employees.
They also welcomed the university administration’s decision to increase pensions by 7 per cent and to take further welfare measures.
The council asked that the matter relating to the DRC, already approved by the competent authority, be processed without delay so retired employees can receive their dues on time.
The meeting also decided to hold the council’s annual dinner on September 25 at the Teachers Community Centre. Former vice-chancellors, university officials, teachers and other relevant personalities will be invited.
