HEC Dismisses Assistant Professor After 30 Years Over Fake Credentials
The Higher Education Commission (HEC) has dismissed an assistant professor at Government Science College after an inquiry found that he had committed academic fraud to obtain educational qualifications, awards and a government job.
According to the HEC, Mujahid Umar arranged for another person to appear in his intermediate and graduation examinations on his behalf. The inquiry also found that he obtained the Quaid-e-Azam Gold Medal and National Talent Scholarship using forged academic documents.
The inquiry report said Umar joined the Education Department in 1996 after submitting fraudulent academic documents. He continued serving in the department for three decades and eventually rose to the position of assistant professor.
The HEC said authorities canceled his degrees after the inquiry established the irregularities and subsequently issued a notification terminating his employment.
The commission also said authorities would recover the salary and benefits he received during his 30 years of service.
