30 Pakistanis Trafficked to Iraq Face Brutal Assault
Around 30 Pakistani youths who went abroad in search of better jobs have allegedly been trafficked to Iraq, according to a report by ARY News.
Families of the affected youths claim that Pakistanis being held in Iraqi prisons and detention centres are facing severe torture. Some families also say they have received videos allegedly showing their loved ones being abused.
The families alleged that the youths were stripped and tortured, while electric shocks were also allegedly administered to their private parts.
Through lawyer Ali Changizi, the families have sent a letter to the president, prime minister and other senior officials, seeking urgent intervention for the release and protection of the detained youths.
Advocate Ali Changizi said the young men were taken to Iraq on the promise of jobs with a foreign company. He said they had already paid millions of rupees to travel abroad.
According to the lawyer, after arriving in Iraq, additional amounts ranging from $10,000 to $20,000 are allegedly being demanded for the release of each Pakistani.
He alleged that those unable to pay are being implicated in false cases and sent to prison, where they are also facing torture.
The affected families have urged the government to launch an immediate investigation, provide legal and diplomatic support to the detained Pakistanis and take action against those allegedly involved in human trafficking.
