Saudi archaeologists have discovered a mosque more than 1,300 years old in the Al-Baha region, with a historical inscription on the qibla wall that mentions Allah, the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, and prayers for righteous people.
According to Saudi archaeological experts, the inscription on the mosque’s qibla wall also includes words of blessings and peace upon the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, and has remained preserved for centuries.
Experts said the discovery is of exceptional historical importance because it offers valuable insight into the ancient Islamic history of the region and the religious and architectural heritage of the early Islamic period.
The mosque is being seen as a rare and significant archaeological find that highlights the depth of early Islamic civilisation in the Arabian Peninsula.
