A third-year MBBS student at Allama Iqbal Medical College (AIMC) in Lahore has died after drowning in the institution’s swimming pool.
The deceased was identified as Abdullah Mazhar, a third-year medical student from Bahawalnagar district.
According to initial police reports, Abdullah drowned in the college’s swimming pool. Police sources said no lifeguard was present at the pool to rescue the student when the incident occurred.
Following the incident, police shifted Abdullah’s body to the morgue for a postmortem examination. Authorities said further legal action would be taken after receiving a formal complaint.
The incident has also prompted an immediate response from the college administration. AIMC has suspended all MBBS classes following the student’s death.
The absence of a lifeguard at the swimming pool has raised concerns about safety arrangements at the institution. Police are expected to examine the circumstances surrounding the incident as part of the investigation.
Abdullah’s death has left fellow students and the college community mourning the loss of the young medical student.
