Sindh Announces Holiday for Schools and Colleges

The Sindh College Education Department has announced a holiday for public and private educational institutions across the province on Monday, November 9, 2026, to mark Iqbal Day.

According to an official notification, all educational institutions operating under the department’s administrative control will remain closed, with academic activities suspended for the day.

The announcement follows the federal government’s decision to observe a nationwide public holiday on November 9. The Cabinet Division had already included Iqbal Day in its annual holiday schedule issued on January 19, 2026.

As the holiday falls on Monday, students and staff at institutions that observe Saturdays and Sundays as weekly holidays will get a three-day break from November 7 to 9. Regular academic activities are expected to resume on Tuesday, November 10.

Iqbal Day is observed annually to commemorate the birth anniversary of Allama Muhammad Iqbal, Pakistan’s national poet, who was born on November 9, 1877, in Sialkot.

The occasion honors his contributions to poetry, philosophy, and the intellectual development of Muslims in the subcontinent.
