Saudi Arabia Executes Bangladeshi Couple for Indecent Act Inside Mosque in Makkah
Saudi Arabia has executed two Bangladeshi nationals after a court convicted them of committing an indecent act inside a mosque in Makkah, according to the Saudi Ministry of Interior.
The ministry announced the executions on Wednesday, October 14, 2026, corresponding to 3 Jumada al-Awwal 1448 AH. The sentence was carried out in the Makkah region.
The two individuals were identified as Nadhar Al-Islam Abdul Basir and Siti Akter, both Bangladeshi nationals.
According to the Interior Ministry, the pair committed what it described as an “indecent act” inside one of the mosques in the Holy Capital, a term Saudi authorities use for Makkah. The statement did not identify the mosque by name.
Saudi security authorities subsequently arrested both individuals.
Following an investigation, prosecutors formally accused them of committing the offense and referred the case to the competent court.
Court Sentences Both to Death
The court found the allegations against the two defendants proven and sentenced them to death under ta’zir, a discretionary punishment under Islamic law.
According to the ministry, the court imposed the sentence because of the seriousness of the offense and because the defendants had violated the sanctity of both the time and place.
The judgment later became final after the relevant judicial authority upheld it.
A royal order was then issued authorizing implementation of the sentence in accordance with the court’s ruling.
Saudi authorities executed both Nadhar Al-Islam Abdul Basir and Siti Akter on Wednesday, October 14, 2026, in the Makkah region.
Saudi Interior Ministry Issues Warning
The Interior Ministry opened its statement by citing several verses from the Quran concerning corruption and wrongdoing on earth, including verses prohibiting corruption and prescribing punishment for those who spread serious disorder.
In its concluding remarks, the ministry said the Saudi government remains committed to maintaining security, delivering justice and implementing Islamic law against those who violate the sanctity of mosques and commit offenses against people’s honor.
The ministry also warned that anyone considering similar acts would face punishment prescribed under Islamic law.
