Rawalpindi Announces Holiday for Schools, Colleges and Universities
The Deputy Commissioner of Rawalpindi has declared Tuesday, August 4, 2026, a local holiday for all educational institutions within Tehsil Rawalpindi on account of the Chehlum procession.
According to an official notification issued on Monday, the holiday will apply to all government and private schools, colleges, and universities located within the municipal limits of Tehsil Rawalpindi. However, the notification clarifies that educational institutions in cantonment areas are exempt from the holiday.
The district administration also ordered the closure of markets and commercial establishments located on or adjacent to the Chehlum procession route to help maintain law and order during the event.
The notification was issued by the Office of the Deputy Commissioner, Rawalpindi, under powers delegated by the Punjab government’s Services and General Administration Department (S&GAD).
The district administration advised residents and businesses to make necessary arrangements in light of the closures and cooperate with authorities to ensure the peaceful conduct of the procession.
