Punjab Orders 24-Hour Duty at Under-Construction Schools

The District Education Authority in Layyah has ordered 24-hour staff duty at schools where construction work is underway.

The order was issued after the reported death of a fourth-grade student at an under-construction school in the district.

Under the new arrangement, Class IV employees will work in three eight-hour shifts to maintain round-the-clock coverage. Schools that do not have Class IV staff will assign teachers to the same eight-hour shifts.

Officials have also directed school administrations to block access to all construction areas. The move aims to keep students away from parts of school buildings where construction work may create safety risks.

The authority has issued similar instructions for construction areas at Government High School Charrar and Aleel Khas.

The Chief Executive Officer of Education will check staff attendance through video calls after school hours.

Field officers have also been told to visit under-construction schools and check whether the new safety instructions are being followed.
