Punjab Issues 11,752 E-Challans for One Traffic Violation

The Punjab Safe Cities Authority (PSCA) has penalized drivers for 11,752 overloading violations across Punjab this month, using AI-powered cameras and its Virtual Traffic Management System to identify offenders.

According to a PSCA spokesperson, authorities recorded 6,204 cases of vehicles carrying more passengers than permitted and 5,548 instances of cargo extending beyond the prescribed limits.

The system flags these violations and alerts traffic enforcement teams, allowing them to intervene promptly. The operation focuses on buses, trucks, tractor-trolleys and other vehicles that pose safety risks through overloading.

Exceeding passenger limits can lead to serious road accidents, while cargo that extends beyond a vehicle’s permitted dimensions can endanger other motorists.

Protruding materials, including iron rods and steel bars, present a particular danger to motorcyclists, who face a high risk of severe or fatal injuries in collisions. The authority is using its surveillance network to identify such violations and help enforcement teams take timely action against those responsible.
