Punjab Govt School Caught Forcing Students to Perform Manual Labor

Punjab Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat has taken notice of allegations that students were made to perform manual labor at Mustafai Model School in Sarai Mughal, Pattoki.

The development comes after images circulated on social media allegedly showing children performing manual labor on school premises, raising concerns about student safety and welfare.

Following the minister’s intervention, the Deputy District Education Officer (DDEO) Pattoki directed the administration of Mustafai Model School, located in Hakim Wala Bazaar, to submit a written explanation and appear before the relevant education office with its records.

The school administration has been warned that action will be taken under the rules if it fails to provide a satisfactory explanation.

Under the Punjab Restriction on Employment of Children Act, 2016, employing or allowing children under the age of 15 to work in establishments is prohibited. The law also restricts adolescents from performing hazardous work and provides penalties for violations.

The allegations have yet to be verified, and the school administration will have an opportunity to present its explanation and records before any further action is taken.
