Punjab Faces Shortage of 8.4 Lac Free Textbooks

Punjab is facing a shortage of approximately 839,000 textbooks, with students still lacking essential learning materials despite nearly half the academic year having passed.

Authorities have issued printing allocations for 18 textbook titles to address the supply gap. However, no confirmed timeline has been provided for when the additional copies will become available.

For Class 12, the allocations include 85,000 copies of Tarjamat-ul-Quran, 65,000 Urdu books, 54,000 Biology books, 45,000 Chemistry books, and 70,000 Computer books.

Additional printing for Class 10 includes 70,000 Biology textbooks and 60,000 copies of Tarjamat-ul-Quran. Authorities have also allocated 80,000 copies of the pre-primary primer and 35,000 Class 4 Islamyat books.

The shortages have continued into October, raising concerns about the timing of the printing allocations and the remaining academic calendar.

Education experts questioned why the shortfall remained unresolved this far into the year. They also expressed concern about how long printing and distribution would take before the books finally reached students.

While the allocations aim to replenish supplies, the delivery schedule remains unclear.
